Hi from Robyn and Tony!
We live in Hamilton New Zealand and have done for most of their lives. We used to own a couple of pet shops, as we’ve always had a liking for animals. We started Pet city in Hamilton which was at the time and we think may still be the country’s largest pet shop. It is now part of the Animates chain.
We only have one cat and hundreds of budgies now though, Robyn has had budgies since she was 9 years old. We breed and exhibit and are judges of budgies here in New Zealand. Robyn says it is her back to nature hobby. That as well as hanging out at the beach or in the bush.
Tony and Robyn enjoy being at the beach and plan to live at the beach one day, not at their holiday home they say though as there is not room for all their birds there plus, they want to live in a little quieter place than right by the action in Oneroa.
However, this house has a special peaceful feeling to it, so it is great to come up and enjoy it as we regularly do. We hope we can continually offer it to others for their own private getaways from
the busy world out there. We make a trip up once a month for a few days to do our best to keep things up to date and take care of any maintenance we notice needs doing and have someone on the island contracted to do the entry and exit cleans for us. It is a big job keeping on top of things, but we enjoy it and value the opportunity to visit it.
We have two grown up sons and we have them to thank for us purchasing this property in the first place as we used to own another 3 bedroom, one bathroom place on the island and we found it was a bit overcrowded when the kids friends all piled in, we loved having them of course so started searching for something where we could perhaps have our own space and allow the kids theirs with their mates as they grew up. We really had in mind something like a one bedroom and a two bedroom with their own self contained areas, however the universe had something much more elaborate in mind for us, Tony spotted the sale sign in the realestate companies window when we were walking past one day after visiting a friend who had just purchased on the other side of Oneroa, the rest is history. We had no idea what a little gem it was at the time, and the great thing about it is we still let the family use it on a regular basis with all their friends, a couple of them enjoy cooking too which is fantastic as it is neither of our favourite jobs so these days we get waited on when they all come. We hope to be able to offer the house to people for many years to come, we may even stay a little longer ourselves from 2020 as we plan to quit our jobs sometime that year.
We have purchased in Welcome Bay, Tauranga now as well but our main residence is still in Hamilton, we are using the Welcome Bay property as a holiday home while we slowly get it ready for us to move into permanently at some stage. After we quit our jobs, then we will have more time to enjoy the beach and our homes. Maybe our Hamilton place will be a holiday home then too, who knows??
